Dear Armbrae Parents and Community Members:
In the last edition of the Two Weeks Ahead, we promised to provide you with some helpful information on fall respiratory viruses. Thanks again to Dr. Babar Haroon for putting this together for us.
Fall respiratory viruses:
There is a likelihood of a potential wave of infections this fall with the risks coming from three viruses:
- respiratory syncytial virus (RSV);
- influenza;
- and COVID-19.
Reminders:
- In Canada, COVID-19 vaccines have been approved for all school-aged children.
- Two vaccine doses at least eight weeks apart are recommended for children aged five to 11 years and a booster dose should be offered to those with underlying medical conditions, including immunocompromised kids.
Practical Steps We Can Take
- Armbrae is a mask-friendly environment. As per current guidelines, the decision to wear a mask is a personal one, based on individual and family preference.
- Should we resume a requirement for mask wearing, we will ensure that this information is communicated to students and families.
Current practices:
- Students can participate in the full range of activities, including, band, clubs, sports and field trips;
- High-touch surfaces continue to be cleaned regularly;
- Soap dispensers and hand sanitizer are available in order to ensure proper hand hygiene practices to prevent the spread of illnesses;
- If you test positive for COVID-19, you should stay home while you have symptoms;
- For the 7 days from when symptoms began or from the date of the positive test (if no symptoms), all people who test positive should also:
- Avoid higher risk people and places
- Wear a well-fitting mask when in indoor public places, public transit, and crowded spaces.
Resources:
That’s it from me for now. Please read on and enjoy the rest of this edition.
Cheers,
Steve.

APA Information
First a very big thank you goes out to all the parents who volunteered to help during this year’s Terry Fox Run. The run was a big success. We couldn’t have asked for better weather and the students had a great time. Thank you also to the incredible Armbrae staff for helping make the event possible. Here are the upcoming events we are looking forward to:
Pumpkin Patch – Wednesday, October 11
- The APA will be transforming the Oxford campus backyard into Armbrae’s very own pumpkin patch for the Preschool to Grade 6 students. Students will have the opportunity to pick out their very own pumpkin and take it home at the end of the school day.
- Pumpkins will be $10 each with 50% of the proceeds going to Feed Nova Scotia. Pumpkins can be purchased with cash or via Campbrain linked here.
Harvest Breakfast – Wednesday, October 11
- Following the whole school assembly, the APA is thrilled to host a continental Harvest Breakfast for parents. The students will also be getting a special treat after the assembly and sent directly to their classes.
- We are asking for peanut-free donations for the breakfast (cider, muffins, loaves, cookies, pastries, fruit, etc.) either for the parents' breakfast or for a specific class.
- If you would like to sign up to bring something please do so here.
Holiday Raffle Donations – Ongoing until November
- This year we are putting together the “Ultimate Holiday Gift Basket” for our Holiday Raffle Fundraiser happening in November.
- Tickets will go on sale in November with special incentives for the best fundraisers. We are seeking gift cards to local businesses and restaurants, donations of wine or spirits, anything that would make “The Ultimate Holiday Gift.” More details to come but if you have any donations, please contact the APA at apa@armbrae.ns.ca
Looking to get involved?
